Rex Theatre
(Carrabelle, FL)
302 Marine Street
Opened: 1943
|
Rex Theatre building (January 2016) |
The building was originally
constructed in the 1920s; however, a hurricane in 1932 caused a fire that
gutted the building. A local Carrabelle resident opened a theater that was
heavily dependent on soldiers from nearby Camp Gordon Johnson, which closed in 1946.
In 1970 the building was sold to a local bank. (CT) One can still see the faded
painting and a drive-through window on Avenue B indicating the building’s use
as a bank.
In January 2016, the building
was empty.
